Why It Matters
Several GCC jurisdictions now mandate governance training for board members of publicly listed companies. The UAE Corporate Governance Code requires at least one “qualified” board member per company. Saudi CMA mandates board member certification for all listed companies.
Kuwait CMA introduced mandatory board training requirements in 2021. Oman CMA has progressively tightened governance qualification expectations. Companies with governance-certified boards tend to score higher on governance indices and may face lower regulatory scrutiny.
Data is sourced from annual reports, governance disclosures, and certification body registries. The is_governance_certification flag distinguishes board-specific governance training from general professional qualifications (CPA, CFA, etc.) tracked on the Board Qualifications page.
